LG G4: What’s Inside the Box?
Let’s just start by saying LG G4 OLED TV is massive! The box is huge, and you’ll definitely need some help getting it out.
This year, LG thankfully included a separate box for a TV stand, which is a nice touch. I opted to wall mount mine, but the stand seemed sturdy and easy to put together based on a quick look.
Wall mounting wasn’t too difficult, but it is a 77-inch TV, so make sure you have a friend to help you out. Once it was up on the wall, I finally peeled off the protective film.
Setting Up the TV Stand
For those opting for the TV stand, it’s solid and attaches easily with the provided screws. It sits slightly angled backward, which is a neat design choice.
On the rear, you’ll find a good range of ports including HDMI 2.1, USB, LAN, cable, and satellite ports, plus an optical audio out.
Wall Mounting & Setup: DIY Time!
While the stand is good, I’m going for a wall-mounted setup. The installation was straightforward, especially with a universal TV mount.
Remember, with this mount, there’s a gap behind the TV for cable management, or you can opt for the slim wall mount for a flush look.
Design & Display
The first thing that struck me about LG G4 OLED TV is the picture quality. It’s an OLED display, and coming from a Samsung Frame TV, the difference is night and day.
The LG G4 is super bright, even in my living room that gets a lot of sunlight. I haven’t even tweaked any settings yet!
The design itself is sleek and modern with very thin bezels that make the picture seem even bigger. The remote feels a little on the cheap side, but honestly, I’ll probably be using my Apple TV remote anyway.
Content looks amazing in 4K HDR. The blacks are deep and inky, which is what you expect from an OLED panel.
There’s a new AI processor in this model, and while I can’t say for sure yet, it seems to make a noticeable difference in picture quality.
AI Modes + α11 Processor: Smart Features
One of the best features is the new Alpha 11 processor with micro lens array technology and onboard AI. I was skeptical at first, but the AI actually enhances picture quality and colors.
The AI director feature adjusts colors to match the director’s intent, which is pretty neat. I’ll be diving deeper into these features in my full review.
Gaming on LG G4 OLED TV
This LG G4 might just be the best gaming TV on the market this year. It has a super fast refresh rate (144hz), a crazy fast response time, and all the bells and whistles gamers love like G-Sync and FreeSync.
I hooked up my PS5 to it, and let me tell you, games look absolutely incredible on this display as Lenovo’s ThinkBook spec.
Motion is smooth, blacks are deep and atmospheric, especially in darker games. The built-in Game Optimizer is a handy feature that lets you adjust settings specifically for gaming.
Overall Thoughts So Far
Based on my first week with it, the LG G4 77” is shaping up to be an incredible TV. It’s a strong contender for the best TV of 2024! It delivers on everything you’d want in a high-end TV: gorgeous picture quality, a sleek design, and all the latest tech features.
The new AI processor shows potential for improved picture quality, while the MLA technology’s increased brightness is a significant upgrade.
So far, the only downsides I can see are the price tag (it is a high-end TV after all) and maybe the AI features that some people might not care about.
